World Kitchen, Inc. manufactures, markets and distributes kitchen housewares products worldwide, for use in preparing, cooking, serving and storing food. It has been a leader in the housewares industry since the introduction of PYREX bakeware in 1918, and its brands today are regarded as the most widely recognized, owned and preferred in U.S. homes. World Kitchen markets well-known consumer brands including: Corningware and Pyrex glass and glass-ceramic products, representing the two largest U.S. bakeware brands; Corelle, the nation's largest selling dinnerware brand in the mass merchant channel; Revere, its core rangetop cookware brand and one of the leaders in the stainless steel category; Visions, an economical line of clear glass cookware; OXO kitchen tools; EKCO and Baker's Secret metal bakeware; Chicago Cutlery and Regent Sheffield cutlery; and Grilla Gear outdoor accessories. (Note - Magnalite and Pursuit have also been added). The company has five major manufacturing operations in the United States (Charleroi, Pa., Corning, N.Y., Martinsburg, W. Va., Wauconda, Ill. and Massillon, Ohio) and a decorating center in Malaysia. From principal distribution centers in the United States, Brazil, England and the Far East, it sells product through multiple channels including mass merchants, department stores, specialty retailers, retail food stores and catalog showrooms. An additional channel is the company's own network of CORNING REVERE Factory Stores, located in outlet centers across North America and internationally. World Kitchen employs approximately 4,000 people worldwide. In early 1999 the company moved into new headquarters in Elmira, New York. In September, 1999 the company completed its acquisition of EKCO Group, Inc., manufacturer of EKCO metal bakeware and other kitchen and household products. This was followed by its October, 1999 acquisition of General Housewares Corporation, maker of OXO, Chicago Cutlery, Grilla Gear and other kitchen items. |
